Importance of Waste to Fuel for a Sustainable Waste Management Future
Kawsar Vazifdar is a Senior Civil Engineering Assistant working for the Environmental Programs Division at Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. Ms. Vazifdar works on The Southern California Conversion Technology Project, which aims to develop energy, green fuels, and useful products from solid waste. She also works on environmental policy and legislation relating to solid waste and renewable energy and fuels. Ms. Vazifdar is registered as a Professional Civil Engineer in California. She received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UCLA.
Conference attendees will learn why the conversion of municipal solid waste (MSW) into fuel is a vital component of an integrated waste management approach. The presentation will discuss the policies and legislation driving the production of fuels from MSW and other wastes, and will also discuss the barriers to waste-to-fuel and how these barriers can be overcome.
